So my child does not listen to me, ever. I ask him to do something and he doesn't, does not even look my way. This has gone on for some time and finally I have to ask myself, "Is he 5 years old and just not listening to me or can he not hear me?"
So, I called the doctor and setup an appointment to have his hearing checked. I was able to sit in the booth with him while he completed the test. The lady conducting the test sat in a booth opposite of Jackson. He could see her through the glass, and was to repeat what she was saying. I could see her month move as she was asking Jackson to repeat certain things. Jackson was to raise his hand when he heard her. As soon as I realized that Jackson could not hear her I started crying, I felt just awful. For so long I had just yelled at him when I assumed he was listening to do whatever it was that I had asked, which sounds horrible when you write it down or say out load.
Jackson had so much fluid built up in his ears that it was hindering him from hearing as well as he should. Thank goodness this was something that could be corrected; Jackson had the capability to hear we just had to get rid of the fluid. We set up an appointment to have tubes put in his ears as well as remove his tonsils and adenoids.
Thankfully we had an amazing doctor and the nursing staff the hospital was amazing. Jackson’s child life specialist was just awesome. She went through everything with him, everything he would see, everything he would go through; it really put him at ease.
We checked in the hospital around 6:30 in the am and were on our way home by lunch. It was a little bumpy, but all in all it was a good experience. I am just happy it’s over and that my sweet little angel can hear to his full potential now.
